Well done to everyone who has been able to log on to Microsoft Teams, we hope that your children are enjoying working with their teacher’s. We are learning along with you how to use the platform and are pleased with the progress we have all made over the last five weeks. We do not have laptops to allocate in school as the DfE are prioritising Year 3 and above. We will continue to provide paper learning packs for those who do not have access to a device or prefer not to use online learning.
Accessing Microsoft Teams through XBox or Play Station.
If you have an XBox at home, or a Platstation you can use it to access Microsoft Teams for home learning. This may help if you have limited devices at home.
The Xbox family of systems use the Edge browser.
• Once the Edge Browser is downloaded and installed, access it from the Game & Apps menu.
• Either search for your remote learning service (Microsoft Teams) or
• Access the relevant site and log in as usual with your details.
• Using Microsoft’s OneDrive you should now be able to access Word, Teams, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and more.
It is recommended you use a mouse and keyboard to control the Edge browser on an Xbox.
The Play Staion systems are a tiny bit more complicated. The PS5web browser can be accessed, but not easily. You need a link to Google. This will allow you to navigate the rest of the web. Once that is done, you can locate and access your remote learning service in the same manner that you can for Xbox systems, only with a mouse and keyboard. Luckily the PS4 web browser is easily accessible, at least. If you search through the app menus you will inevitably find a web browser icon – three W’s surrounded by a circle of dots. Once you’re in you will be able to access remote learning, again as outlined above.
The school is looking closely at the increase in screen time and how it impact’s on teachers and pupils. It is essential that children have some time away from all devices.
Class teachers are continuing to contact children working from home by telephone regularly. Please expect a telephone call but be aware that the call may register as no caller ID. If you are not available and the teacher leaves a message for you could you please telephone school and let us know you are safe and well, Thank you.
Free School Meal support
During the half term holiday, support is available for families through the Covid Winter Grant Scheme. Low income families, that are in receipt of council tax support, will get a voucher payment of £15 per child to go towards the cost of food essentials, this will be provided directly by the Local Authority. Letters including instructions on how to redeem voucher codes should have been received by families this week.
Could I also remind parents/carers that face coverings should be worn when dropping off/collecting children, unless adults are exempt. In addition, visitors are not permitted in school, can you please call the office should you need anything or come to the office window.
Thank you for your continued support
