Social, moral, spiritual and cultural learning



Children at Crofton Infants’ School are involved in democratic processes, voting for School Councillors from Reception to Year 2. Our two Reception classes each have a class representative, while our Key Stage 1 classes have two representatives per class. Our School Councillors make decisions democratically on behalf of their peers.A member of school staff facilitates the School Council. Regular meetings are held, where an agenda is set, minutes are taken and democratic processes are followed.Each half term two of our Year 2 School Councillors attend the Waterton Children’s Parliament, which makes decisions on behalf of all the schools within the whole Multi Academy Trust.


The Rule of Law:

Our Golden Rules are the backbone of our school community. Children are taught how these guide us to make great behaviour and learning choices for ourselves and for the school community.
We have a clearly structured behaviour policy, which all stakeholders understand and follow.
We regularly review behaviour incidents in school and share these with key stakeholders.
Safety awareness and E-Safety awareness are a focus of assemblies and cross-curricular work. Our computing curriculum within Key Stage 1 covers Basic Internet Safety, appropriate to the age of the children.


Individual Liberty:

Within school, children are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school we educate and provide boundaries for young children to make choices safely, through our provision of a safe environment and empowering teaching. Children are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms.


Mutual Respect:

Mutual respect is at the heart of our values. Children learn that their behaviours have an effect on their own rights and those of others. All members of the school community treat each other with respect. This is clearly seen in our Golden Rules, which are clearly displayed in every classroom and taught, as part of our PSHE curriculum.


Tolerance of those of Different Faiths and Beliefs:

At Crofton Infants’ School we actively promote diversity through our celebrations of different faiths and cultures. Religious Education lessons and PSHE lessons reinforce messages of tolerance and respect for others.
Children have the opportunity to dress-up in clothes and try different foods from other cultures and we encourage parents/carers to participate and support our multi-cultural events.
