Year 2 – Grasshoppers

Welcome to Grasshopper Class (Year 2)

My name is Mrs Butler and I will be working with your children Monday to Thursday. On a Friday the Grasshoppers will be taught by Mrs Burgin. Mrs Burgin is the school science co-ordinator so Fridays will be full of exciting science! Mrs Barraclough is the Teaching Assistant and she will be working in the Grasshoppers everyday. Mrs Hardy ( HLTA), Mrs Hall also work in Year 2 supporting the class and small groups activities. We are the Grasshoppers and we aim to go as high as we can!

Throughout the year your child will be encouraged to work to the best of their ability as we aim to develop independent learners who are hardworking and rise to a challenge, equipping them with the necessary skills that will ensure a smooth transition to the Junior school.

In Year 2, we like to have fun and enjoy learning many new and exciting things, both inside and outside! We have planned lots of exciting and engaging learning activities to inspire your child throughout the year

Our topics this year are:

  • Castles
  • Darkness and light
  • Explorers
  • The Great Fire of London
  • Mad about Minibeasts
  • South Africa

We like to bring the curriculum to life and enjoy having visitors into school and visiting other places.

If you want to find out more information about our topics then please look at the half-termly ‘Parent Information Sheet’, attached below, which will give more detail or feel free to ask!

We understand that effective learning is based on a strong partnership between home and school. We truly value and appreciate the support the children are given at home, particularly in reading at least three times a week. This really does make a difference!
