A proud member of

Year 2 – Grasshoppers

Welcome to Grasshopper Class (Year 2)

Grasshopper class will be taught by Mrs Butler Monday to Thursday and by Mrs Walker on Thursday afternoon and Friday. Mrs Evans is the Teaching Assistant and she will be supporting the children with their learning everyday.

We are the Grasshoppers and we aim to go as high as we can!

Throughout the year your child will be encouraged to work to the best of their ability as we aim to develop independent learners who are hardworking and rise to a challenge, equipping them with the necessary skills that will ensure a smooth transition to the Junior school.

In Year 2, we like to have fun and enjoy learning many new and exciting things, both inside and outside! We have planned lots of exciting and engaging learning activities to inspire your child throughout the year

Our topics this year are:

  • Castles
  • Remember, Remember
  • Explorers
  • The Great Fire of London
  • Fantastic beasts and where to find them
  • Home and Away

We aim to bring the curriculum to life through visits out of school and by inviting visitors to school to help us understand more about our topics. Forthcoming events this academic year include a visit to Conisbrough castle, history workshops to learn about Sandal castle and Charles Waterton and a visit by Sir William Petty – a good friend of Samuel Pepys to help us understand events surrounding the Great Fire.

If you want to find out more information about our topics then please look at our Year 2 Sway for this half term or please see a member of the Year 2 team.

We understand that effective learning is based on a strong partnership between home and school. We truly value and appreciate the support the children are given at home, particularly in reading at least three times a week. This really does make a difference!

We are looking forward to working with your child this year.

Mrs Butler, Mrs Walker and Mrs Evans.
